…Vow to Make Access to Education Easy
The Executive Governor of Osun state, Ademola Adeleke has pledged to support private school entrepreneurs in the state, and also to make access to education easy for the public.
He stated this while receiving the management and students of Mercy Medical University, Iwaara Iwo at the Governor’s office in Osogbo on Tuesday.
The Governor while speaking appreciated the efforts of private school entrepreneurs in the country, according to him “they fill a major gap within the public sector”.
In his words, “When I meet educational entrepreneurs, I’m always full of praise for them. Private school entrepreneurs, deserve our total support, the several private schools fill a major gap, the crisis within the public sector.
“Education almost overwhelm public sector leaders, the private entrepreneur came to the rescue of nation.
“We value your contribution to the national development. You’re very important to the state at the national at large, I must assure you that our government is ready to partner with you, we will support your development as we make access to education easy for the public.”
He, also urged the leadership of Mercy Medical university to connect with he ministry of education in order to for collaboration and support from the government.
“I urge you to connect with our ministry of education for details of collaboration if you need any further support, don’t hesitate to reach to me.”
Speaking earlier, the Proprietor of Mercy Medical University, Dr Abdul Fatai Onifade firstly commended the governor for providing a conducive environment for the school to operate and triumph in the state.
He also noted that, “Mercy Medical university has 3 institution, one is Mercy College of Health Sciences and Technology that was established in 2015, Mercy College of Nursing Sciences that has Nursing available in 2021, and Mercy University Hospital that was also established in 2023 December.
“So with this four institutions, Mercy Medical university, the University’s hospital, Medical college of nursing Sciences, Health science and technology, by God’s grace, by October 2025 we’re going to have about 10,000 students.
“And the uniqueness of this university compared to other universities, private or Goverment is many of our students live within the community. That means we interact with the community, we live with the community and we develop the community.”
Dr. Onifade, however listed some of the challenges facing the school, while pleading for support and provisions from the state government.
In his words, “We need many things from you sir, the area of priority. One, the road network of the community, the road leads to Okeikeke, Ogbaagba, Iwere they’re all big communities and this community introduce agriculture and they have large population. This road is about 10kilometer and we need your help on it.
“Mercy Medical university, we’re a unique institution in Nigeria, I can say it authoritatively that we’re the only institution in Nigeria that has all this four. Not only that sir, by the year of 2027 we’ll be receiving alot of visitors from US, from UK,from different part of the world.
“Because of this, we want you to assist us to develop that community, apart from road network, we need stable electricity for our students, we need good portable water, because people that come from US and UK cannot be drinking water that would cause problem for them.
“We also need some school buses, and we also want to make sure we give back to the community especially Osun state.
“If Osun state governor can give scholarship to some staff, we can retrain them, we’re the only licenced institution in Osun state, that can train a degree program in community health, no other institution. We’re only three in Nigeria as at now. At least scholarships to 10 per local government is okay for us sir.” The principal pleaded.
After the meeting, the university management presented two gifts to appreciate Governor Adeleke.
