Osun Airport: Our Mandate Does not Cover Location -Committee

The Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke Airport Committee of the Osun State Government has debunked statement credited to the Ido Osun Youth Forum about an alleged plan to rename the location of the airport from Ido Osun to Ede North, stressing that its mandate and discussion never cover issues painted in the forum’s article.

Secretary to the Committee, Modupe Irelewuyi, who issued a clarification on its activities said at no point in time has its Chairman or any of its members discussed issues bordering on renaming of the location as alleged.

According to the Secretary, several meetings so far held has focussed on bequetting a airport of international standard to the state in line with the directive of Mr Governor, narrating that discussions had dwelt on securing the right measurements and standard for runway and other structures as well as correcting any technical errors in the legacy project.

“The committee work has so far been professionally handled with the lead technical member being from Egbedore alongside the Commissioner for Finance who is also from Egbedore Local Government.

“It is therefore false to allege that Egbedore is not represented on the Committee when the technical review of the committee is being coordinated by an Egbedore indigene.

“We also defend the integrity and professionalism of the Committee Chairman, Dr B.T Sallam who has demonstrated the best level of patriotism as he pilots the affairs of the committee.

“We reassure people of Egbedore and Osun state as a whole that the committee is committed to delivering on its mandate of a befitting airport which conforms to international best standard, aviation safety and requirements of aviation regulators.

“The Committee is not playing politics with such a critical mandate and we urge the Citizens to look beyond partisan political interest and support this laudable plan to build a quality airport for Osun state.”
