Osun Gov’t Begins Climate Change Action Advocacy Outreach

The Osun state government has kick-started an advocacy outreach in sensitising the public about climate change action as it affects their immediate environment.

Speaking at the 4th day of a 5-day Climate Change sensitization outreach to secondary schools held at the Ido-Osun High School in Egbedore Local Government area of the state on Tuesday, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Climate Change, Egnr Moruff Adedapo emphasised the importance of why they’re taking the advocacy tour to secondary schools in the state in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.

” Today, I’m coming here on the mandate given to me and the Climate Change Advisory Council by the Executive Governor of Osun State His Excellency Senator Ademola Adeleke. I’m here to lend my voice, advocate and support the Climate Change awareness outreach in collaboration with a Change agent and member of the National Youth Service Commission (NYSC) Corp member Quadri Babatunde and his team.”

“As students, staff and management body of this school, I wish to highlight some of the causes, effects and possible ways of mitigating against adverse effects of Climate Change in our environment and these are, proper disposition of non-degradable waste to the assigned and accredited places. Avoid blocking our erosion channels through careless refuse dumping. Less reliance on fossil fuel to clean and renewable energy. Tree Planting for excess carbon absorption from the atmosphere, as it has proven to be the best antidote to the effects of Climate Change globally among others,” the Governor’s Aide reiterated at the gathering.

The Senior Special Assistant on Climate Change to the Governor thereafter unveil a ‘Climate Change Vanguard Club’ in the school in a bid to ensure continuous advocacy on Climate Change action and effort of Osun government on it, thereby ensuring information dissemination and sensitization concerning it trickles down to all fabric of the public in Osun State.

Egnr Moruff Adedapo thanked the convener, partners of the program, staff, and students for their efforts and readiness to work with the Osun State government to achieve a clean and safe environment.

Speaking at the gathering, the convener of the Outreach, Corp member Quadri Babatunde, onbehalf of his team, thank the Governor for deeming it fit to support and partner with his team on the advocacy outreach while also acknowledging the financial support from the SSA towards the success of the Outreach.

He equally commended the state government for the strategic and decisive action they’ve taken so far concerning climate change action in the state, which resulted into some developments that will benefit Osun in no too distant time.
