Adeleke Suspends NURTW Activities in Osun Motor Parks, Orders Arrest of Defaulters

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has directed security agencies to immediately suspend all activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in motor parks across the state, citing the need to restore order and maintain public peace.
The directive was contained in a statement signed by the Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, following the State Security Council meeting chaired by the governor at the Government House, Osogbo.
The meeting was attended by top security officials, including representatives of the Nigeria Police Force, Zone 11 Command, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Navy, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigerian Correctional Service, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), the Western Nigeria Security Network (Amotekun), alongside the Deputy Governor, Chief of Staff, Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, and the Special Adviser on Security Matters.
According to the statement, the decision followed an extensive review of the security situation in the state, particularly developments in motor parks.
Governor Adeleke directed the police and other security agencies to halt all NURTW operations in motor parks across Osun State with immediate effect, including the collection of levies.
He also ordered security operatives to arrest anyone parading as an official or executive of the union in any motor park.
“I hereby direct the Police and other security agencies to stop all activities of the union in all our parks across the state. This directive does not mean the parks should be closed. Rather, no individual or group should be allowed to operate in the name of the union in any motor park across Osun State. Anyone found violating this order should be arrested and made to face prosecution for acts capable of disturbing public peace,” the governor said.
The governor explained that the directive was intended to restore sanity in the state’s motor parks and prevent actions capable of disrupting public order.
The security chiefs present at the meeting assured the governor of their commitment to enforcing the directive and maintaining law and order across the state.
As part of additional measures to strengthen security, Governor Adeleke also approved the immediate establishment of a Rapid Response Squad comprising personnel from all security agencies operating in Osun State.
The squad is expected to coordinate enforcement of the directive and respond swiftly to any breach of public peace or attempt to undermine the government’s order.
