Police arrests 24-year-old man for murder in Enugu

Police operatives in Enugu have arrested a 24-year-old man for murder.

The man, Agbo Onuabuchi was said to have strangled to death and buried his 44-year-old friend in a shallow grave.

The police command made this known in a statement signed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe on their Twitter page on Monday.

The stament said, ”Enugu State Police Command press release of 24th April 2023. Enugu police operatives arrest, arraign and have a young man, 24, remanded for strangling to death and burying friend, 44, in a shallow grave.

“A young man, Agbo Onuabuchi aged 24, a native of Ebonyi State, but resident at Ogidi in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, has been arraigned and remanded in Enugu Custodial Centre, for strangling to death and burying his male friend, one Peter Ukekwe, aged 44, in a shallow grave, at Amori community in Nkanu West Local Government Area, on 01/04/2023.

“The suspect and the deceased had on the said date travelled from Ogidi, Anambra State, to the mentioned location to visit one Onyeka Edeh (male and a native doctor). However, during the night hours, the duo left the host’s house for an unknown destination.

“A search was conducted, but they were not found until the following morning, when the suspect was arrested at Obe community in the same LGA, by police operatives serving in Nkanu West Division of Enugu State Command, with the assistance of citizens, while he was attempting to escape back to Ogidi, Anambra State.

“The suspect confessed to the crime, stating that he strangled the victim to death and buried him in a shallow grave in the bush, where his remains were exhumed and deposited in the mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

“The case was, thereafter, transferred to the Homicide Section of the State CID Enugu, where the investigation into the case was consolidated, concluded and the suspect arraigned and remanded accordingly for further hearing.”
