Stop your anticipatory anxiety over govt policies, Osun PDP tells APC

▪️Says laws are made for good of society except criminals

The ruling Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State has again advised the opposition All Progressives Congress not to overprice its worth whenever they are pressed to react to policies of government in the state, stating that, the cybercrime law being planned in the state is not a new enactment warranting excessive panting by any law-abiding citizen.

The PDP wondered why APC is so naive to the fact that cybercrime law is an act of APC-controlled federal government, which has been part of the nation’s legal jurisprudence since 2015, indicating that, laws made in a civilized society are meant for the overall good of the people, except for criminal elements who are often afraid of their tracks.

A statement by the state chairman of the ruling party reminded the troubled APC of the earlier promise of the state Governor, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke to the effect that all relevant laws in the country are to be domesticated in the state for effective enforcement.

The state government had earlier began process of domesticating the startup act of 2022, signed into law by the immediate past president, Mohammadu Buhari. The law for instance, is aimed at creating incentives, structures and programmes for Nigerian startups to catalyse growth, create value and build a foundation to export tech-enabled services.

Cybercrime being ushered into the state like many of sub nationals in the country is also a simple legal instrument aimed at providing for the prohibition, prevention, detection, response, investigation and prosecution of cybercrimes; and other related matters, 2015. How that becomes a source of megalophobia for our unserious noisy neighbors beats our imagination.

Our great party finds it amusing, that a law promulgated and signed into law under the administration of APC federal government is now being taunted as repressive by the same members of APC in Osun State. Whereas there is no part of the law known to us as reserved to punish only Osun APC members, while again, there’s no section of the law conferring immunity on anyone, including Osun APC members.

For avoidance of doubt by all law abiding people of Osun State, a tip among many parts of the act is section 24(1) which made it an offence to send a message via a computer system which was “grossly offensive, pornographic or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character” or to send a message or cause any such message or matter to be so sent; or to send a message, knowing it to be false…. “

Section 37 of the act again for instance is already being observed across the nation’s financial and other relevant sectors as it imposes obligations on banks and financial institutions to verify the identity of a customer before carrying out electronic banking transactions.

“Above are just few of the letters of the act and only frustrated criminals would find such law as draconian or repressive”

“For us as a party, we will continue to support actions and policies of our dear Governor, who as a well-travelled leader, is doing everything humanly possible to put the state on a sound footing, away from self-serving approach of men of yesterday, who got booted out of office largely due to their lawlessness in office”

However, if APC outrage of dementia is to engage in unlawful activities on cyberspace, perhaps as they are used to, the law will not be merciful to them as no government worth its onions will be apologetic to few criminals, wishing to have their ways in a lawful society, Hon Sunday Bisi emphasized”

Signed
