Reggae icon and actor James Chambers, known worldwide as Jimmy Cliff, has passed away, his family announced on Monday.
In a statement posted on his official social media platforms, Cliff’s wife revealed that the celebrated musician died “due to a seizure followed by pneumonia”.
“It’s with profound sadness that I share that my husband, Jimmy Cliff, has crossed over due to a seizure followed by pneumonia,” the announcement on his official Facebook page read.
She expressed gratitude to family members, friends, colleagues and fans who supported Cliff throughout his decades-long career.
“To all his fans around the world, please know that your support was his strength throughout his whole career. He really appreciated every fan for their love,” she wrote.
Cliff’s wife also thanked the medical team that cared for him, noting: “I also wanted to thank Dr Couceyro and the whole medical staff, as they have been extremely supportive and helpful during this difficult process. Jimmy, my darling, may you rest in peace. I will follow your wishes.”
She appealed for privacy as the family mourns, adding that further details will be provided in due course.
