Lagos State Gov’t Hosts Investment Roundtable, Seeks to Boost Local, Foreign Investment

The Lagos State Government in collaboration with One Foundation, Alitheia and ETK hosted the Lagos Investment Roundtable with the theme: “Opportunity made in Lagos” today, Wednesday 24th July 2024 at the Eko Hotel and Suits, VI, Lagos.

The event was attended by the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu; Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Babafemi Hamzat; Honourable Commissioner for Commerce, Cooperative, Trade and Investment, Mrs. Folashade Ambrose-Medebem; other Lagos State cabinet members and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Commerce, Cooperative, Trade and Investment, Dr Olugbemiga Ayoola Aina; Chief Executive Officer, Sterling Bank, Abubakar Suleiman; CEO ETK, Bolaji Sofoluwe; Chief Operating Officer, Alitheia, Yewande Adewusi; CEO, One Foundation, Olapeju Ibekwe; Members of the Lagos State Executive Council; Members of the body of Permanent secretaries; Members of the Diplomatic Corp, Business Membership Organizations; Investors and Potential Investors. NACCIMA was duly represented by Sola Obadimu, the Director-General accompanied by other Secretariat Staff (Willem Inya – Reserach Unit &
Akinrotimi Obagbemi – BMCC Unit).

The Lagos State Commissioner for Commerce, Cooperative, Trade and Investment, Mrs. Folashade Ambrose-Medebem, highlighted the aim of the Inaugural Lagos Investment Roundtable gathering in her opening remarks which was to harmonize the respective visions and targets agreed on key actions that would strengthen existing investments, partnerships and to initiate new ones. She also reiterated that the Lagos state government is committed towards creating a business-friendly environment that encourages local and foreign investments by simplifying regulatory processes and eliminating bureaucratic bottlenecks that hinder business operations.

At the event, the following Commissioners, MD’s and SA’s made a presentation to identify investable opportunities within the sectors domiciled in their respective ministries:
• HealthCare – Prof. Akin Abayomi, Commissioner for Health.
• Transportation – Engr (Mrs) Abimbola Akinajo, MD LAMATA represented by Kemi Williams
• Energy – Biodun Ogunleye, Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources.
• Climate – Titilayo Oshodi, SA to the Governor on Climate Change and Secular Economy
• Technology – Olatubosun Alake, Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Technology.
• Arts, Culture, Sports and Tourism – Mrs. Toke Benson- Awoyinka represented by Mrs. Oloruntoyin Atekoja, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Arts, Culture, Sports and Tourism.
• Infrastructure- Engr. Olufemi Olubunmi Daramola, SA to the Governor on Infrastructure.
• Agriculture – Ms. Ruth Abisola Olusanya was represented by Dr. Oluwarotimi Fashola, SA to the governor on Rice Initiative.

In the remarks by the Governor, H.E Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, he informed the participants that the Lagos State government initiated a 30-year development plan which commenced in 2022 to end in 2052 noting that with this plan Lagos state will become one of the human capital providers in Nigeria.

He further stated that the government in its efforts is resilient in building an economy that can absorb shocks with its policy framework which will further aid the establishment of more primary and secondary healthcare facilities within the state especially for pediatrics and mental rehabilitation centers, implementation of health insurance scheme, provision of additional funds for the development of Badagry for the attraction of investors and tourist, provision of continued support to practitioners within the creative industry, and ensuring that the water ways are safe as the road.
