A woman identified as Onyinye, has landed in the police net after taking her child to a market to sell.
The woman was said to have taken her five-year-old son to a popular market in Bishop Okoye street in the Mile-3 area of Port Harcourt, Rivers State Capital, on Saturday, February 24, 2024.
Drama was said to have ensued when some traders confronted the woman and realised her true intentions which she attributed to hardship.
The traders, who doubted if the child was hers, reportedly bundled Onyinye and took her to the police station to report the matter, leading to the latter’s arrest.
“The way I see the woman, I don’t think she is normal because of how she was acting,” one of the traders was quoted as saying.
The Police Public Relations (PPRO) in Rivers State, Grace Iringe-Koko confirmed the incident, saying the matter is being investigated.
She stated, “The woman was brought to the station by some persons who alleged she came to the market to sell her child.
“We are investigating the matter to ascertain the veracity of the eyewitnesses’ claims. Meanwhile, the woman is still with the police.”
