Esa Oke Killing: Adeleke Relocates Slain Accord Member’s Family to Osogbo, Awards Scholarships to Five Children
By Waliu Adetokun, Osogbo
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has relocated the widow and children of the late Accord Party member, Aderogba, who was killed during the recent violence in Esa Oke, to Osogbo, the state capital, in a move aimed at guaranteeing their safety and welfare.
The governor also approved full educational scholarships for the deceased’s four children and an additional child who was living with the family at the time of the incident. Accommodation has been provided for the family, while the widow is currently receiving medical treatment following the governor’s directive.
The development was disclosed in a statement signed by the Governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, on Sunday.
According to the statement, the widow recounted the circumstances surrounding her husband’s death, alleging that a personal assistant to Hon. Wole Oke and the youth leader of Esa Oke were present during the attack.
The statement said the relocation, coordinated by the spokesperson to the Imole Campaign Council, Hon. Pelumi Olajengbesi, and the member representing Obokun State Constituency in the Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Adewumi Adeyemi, was completed on Friday evening following concerns over the security of the bereaved family.
It added that Olajengbesi also made a financial donation to support the welfare of the family.
During a visit to the family’s new residence in Osogbo, Governor Adeleke assured the widow and her children of the government’s continued support and pledged that those responsible for the killing would be brought to justice.
“I am happy the widow and children are now fully secured here in the state capital. We have made all arrangements for their accommodation, education and other welfare needs. The state will ensure their safety, provide adequate care and pursue justice for the late Aderogba,” the governor said.
Adeleke also expressed concern over reports that some residents of Esa Oke were still being threatened because of their political affiliation with the Accord Party. He urged the Nigeria Police to act swiftly to prevent further violence in the community.
The governor said he was monitoring the implementation of the directives issued by the Inspector-General of Police following recent security meetings on the situation in the state.
“I am monitoring the implementation of the directives issued by the Inspector-General of Police through the Deputy Inspector-General of Police. It is almost 72 hours since the meeting, and 48 hours ago, the Deputy Inspector-General also held an operational meeting with service commanders in the state.
“We expect immediate action on the directives of the Inspector-General of Police. I hope that no police officer will defy the operational orders duly issued by the IGP,” Adeleke stated.
The governor again extended his condolences to the Aderogba family and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring that all those involved in the killing are apprehended and prosecuted.
