The lawmaker representing Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore and Ejigbo Federal Constituency of Osun State in the National Assembly, Representative Bamidele Salam, has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of Alhaja Sidikat Basiru Suuru Odofin, the beloved mother of the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Ajibola Basiru.
In a condolence message issued on Sunday, Rep. Salam described the late Alhaja Sidijat as an exceptional woman whose life was defined by compassion, industry, generosity, unwavering faith, and an uncommon commitment to the well-being of others.
Reflecting on his personal relationship with the deceased, the federal lawmaker noted that her passing was not merely the loss of a political associate’s mother but the departure of a woman who played a significant maternal role in his own life.
“I received the news of Mama’s passing with a heavy heart. She was much more than the mother of my brother, Dr. Ajibola Basiru; she was also a mother to me. During some of the most uncertain periods of my youthful years, I had the privilege of living in their home, where Mama welcomed me with open arms and treated me as one of her own children.
“Following our expulsion from the university in the early 90s, when the future seemed uncertain and hope was often difficult to find, Mama’s home became a place of refuge. She provided us with shelter, care, encouragement and unconditional love.
“Her prayers, wise counsel and motherly guidance strengthened us during those difficult formative years and inspired us never to give up on our dreams.”
Salam added that the late matriarch devoted her life to raising responsible children and extending kindness to everyone who came her way, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire generations.
He noted that while her demise has created an irreplaceable void in the lives of her family and all who knew her, the remarkable values she embodied remain a lasting testament to a life well lived.
He prayed that Almighty Allah, in His infinite mercy, forgives her shortcomings, accepts her return, grants her eternal rest in Al-Jannah Firdaus, and comforts Dr. Ajibola Basiru, the entire Basiru family, and all those mourning this painful loss with the strength and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
He urged the family to take solace in the exemplary life she lived, the countless lives she touched, and the enduring legacy of love, sacrifice, compassion and faith that she leaves behind.
