On November 15, 2022, the immediate past governor, Gboyega Oyetola, received a report from the implementation committee of the newly converted University of Ilesa led by Prof. Olu Aina.
And 3 days after, union of the institution protested against certain aspects the law establishing the school and called on the authority for review. The basis of their demand as pointed out in their protest letter was that there were many unaddressed matters in the law that should be looked into by the government. Surprisingly however, Oyetola ignored their concerns and carried on.
This is not a route the current state governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, is prepared to go, given the fact that he’s a listening Governor and more, the deep interest of Ijeshaland in his heart.
As such, he inaugurated an Adhoc committee of erudite scholars to ensure that the university is on the right path of becoming one of the best universities in Nigeria and the world at large.
The committee is charged with the responsibilities to review and assess the funding requirement, review and assess sources of funding, review the implementation committee guidelines, identify the gaps within the UNILESA Establishment Law and draw appropriate policy recommendations for the eventual take-off of the University through the engagement of all the relevant stakeholders.
Governor Adeleke’s interest is doing the right thing and make sure the University of Ilesa will not encounter any challenges when it eventually take-off.
Recalled that Osun State University was established under the leadership of PDP in 2006 and has since then become one of the best universities in Nigeria known for a stable academic calendar.
This won’t have been possible if it had due process had been set aside for politics as the actions of Oyetola had clearly tried to with the University of Ilesa.
It is on that note that I want to commend Governor Adeleke for his brilliant decision as it focus on successful running of University of Ilesa and I can say for sure that Osun State is in safe hands.
I also want to commend the people of Ijeshaland for their understanding and for not letting themselves be a political tool to be used by the APC to destabilize the good intentions of Gov. Adeleke for the Ijeshaland and Osun people in general.
Keep on working, great job!
Thank you!
