The troops were attacked, while reinforcing the task force of Sectors 3 and 4 of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) in Gerere and Arege of Lake Chad region.

A counter-insurgency expert, in the region, Zagazola Makama, disclosed, yesterday (Saturday), in Maiduguri that the terrorists made an attempt to infiltrate the advancing troops’ harbour with VBIED.

According to him, the terrorists were, however, neutralized, while others fled with gunshot wounds.

A military source in Maiduguri, stated that the troops later repelled the attack and held their fighting positions and equipment.

“They also recovered a cache of arms, vehicles and motorcycles from the terrorists,” it said.

It added that the number of terrorists neutralized, including the suicide bomber were unconfirmed.

But Makama explained that terrorists’ adoption of VBIED was to prevent troops’ incursion into their enclaves.
