Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke has concluded plans to resuscitate the moribund water scheme located in Ora-Igbomina in Ifedayo Local Government of the State as part of the fulfilment of his campaign promises which include provision of portable water in every nooks and crannies of the state.
The Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Sunday Oroniyi disclosed this in Ora Igbomina, while on an On- the -spot inspection with the Special Adviser on Small Town, Water Supply and sanitation ,Princess Oyeboade Oyewale Afolabi and the management team of the agency.
It would be recalled that the dilapidated dam was constructed and commissioned by the past administration of Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola and it has served Ora-Igbomina and Oke-Ila Communities before it later got dilapidated.
The Commissioner who expressed displeasure over the deplorable condition of the water scheme, observed that all the buildings are dilapidated while all the equipments have been auctioned by the previous administration.
He explained that the decision of the State Government to resuscitate the water scheme was borne out of government’s realization of the importance of provision of potable water, which is one of the top priorities in the 5 point integral action plans of Governor Adeleke’s administration.
In her remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on STOWASSA/WRC , Princess Oyeboade Oyewale Afolabi frowned at the way the water scheme was mismanaged and abandoned by the previous administration in the state.
She said, the aim of Governor Oyinlola in constructing the Ora-Igbomina Water Scheme was to help the people of Ifedayo Local Government to have access to potable water, but unfortunately ,the past administration politicized it thereby defeating the sole intention of putting it in place.
Speaking at the palace of Oragun of Oke-Ila Oba (Dr.)Adedokun Abolarin, the Asaoni of Ora-igbomina Oba Joshua Tinuoye Atolagbe, The Akesin of Ora-Igbomina, Oba Samuel Oladoye Idowu, the Commissioner explained the purpose of the visit and solicited the cooperation, support and maximum security when the project starts.
In their separate responses, the three monarchs eulogized the governor for his unprecedented achievements in the past few months and explained the challenges the communities encountered during the dry season when looking for water.
The Special Adviser on STOWASSA/WRC, Princess Oyeboade, appreciated the three monarchs, for the time and attention given to the team during the visit.
