PSC Dismisses Four Senior Police Officers, Sanctions 31 Others Over Misconduct

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has dismissed four senior police officers and imposed various disciplinary measures on 31 others over cases of misconduct, as part of efforts to strengthen discipline and professionalism in the Nigeria Police Force.
The decisions were taken at the Commission’s plenary meeting held at its Corporate Headquarters in Abuja.

According to the PSC, the dismissed officers were found guilty of gross misconduct, unprofessional conduct and acts unbecoming of public officers.

The Commission also approved the reduction in rank of 10 senior officers. The affected officers include three Superintendents of Police who were demoted to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police, two Deputy Superintendents of Police reduced to Assistant Superintendent of Police, and five Assistant Superintendents of Police demoted to the rank of Inspector.

In addition, two officers were compulsorily retired in the public interest.
Other disciplinary measures approved by the Commission include severe reprimands for 10 officers, reprimands for five others, warning letters for three officers and a letter of advice for one officer. The Commission also cleared seven officers of all allegations after they were exonerated during the disciplinary process.

Speaking on the outcome of the meeting, Chairman of the PSC, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (retd.), said the Commission would continue to enforce discipline across the Nigeria Police Force.

“The current Board of the PSC under my watch will not condone any form of misconduct by police officers. The Commission will continue to uphold discipline in the Force and match all forms of misconduct with commensurate disciplinary actions.

“We will also continue to encourage and motivate hard-working officers through our established reward system,” Argungu said.

He reiterated the Commission’s commitment to promoting accountability, professionalism and integrity in the Nigeria Police Force, stressing that maintaining discipline remains essential to improving public confidence in the policing system.
