Troops kill five terrorists in Borno

Troops of 242 Battalion, Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) and Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), have killed five terrorists with the destruction of camps in Ngurnoa, Gumnari, Nairawa, and Amburam villages of Monguno local council of Borno state.

The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists were neutralised in coordinated clearance operations of December 4, 2023 in the hideouts of the Lake Chad Basin.

It was gathered that the troop’s patrols, which cleared the four camps, led to the killing of five terrorists, while others fled for their safety.

A counter-insurgency expert, in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, disclosed, yesterday (Thursday), in Maiduguri that on arrival at Amburam, the troops had contact with the terrorists and engaged them with superior fire power.

According to him, this forced the terrorists to retreat into a canal in disarray with gunshot wounds.

The troops reported that about 5 terrorists were neutralized. However, troops could not secure pictures of the neutralized terrorists as they sank inside the water.

Meanwhile, the troops also recovered a Grenade Propelled Machine Gun (GPMG) and four AK- 47 magazines in a shallow pond of lake.

Makama, however, noted that a soldier was wounded during the encounter and has since been evacuated by air to a military hospital in Maiduguri for treatment.
