SAHEL STANDARD Personality Of The Week: NPF First Female Secretary, AIG Yetunde Longe

Assistant Inspector- General of Police, AIG Yetunde Longe was born in Lagos State where she is from. She attended Anglican Girls Grammar School, Surulere, Lagos (1980) and City University of New York John Jay College of Criminal Justice (1986) with a Bachelors Degree in Forensic Toxicology.

Her journey to the Force was inspired by the police practice in far away United States of America. She did an internship at the New York Police Defence Academy, and that piqued her interest in serving her country through the Nigeria Police Force.

She was appointed a Cadet ASP on March 3, 1990 and has demonstrated exceptional dedication and competence across various capacities within the Nigeria Police Force.

Her professional development has significantly contributed to her proficiency in crime management and investigation and is further enriched by her participation in advanced courses such as the Advanced Detective Course and Intermediate Command Course at Police Staff College Jos, and the Protection of Civilians course in Italy.

Throughout her illustrious career, AIG Longe has held several key positions including Administrative Officer, Crime Officer, Commandant in Lagos. Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Corporate Investment at the NPF Cooperative; Area Commander in Lagos, Deputy Commissioner of Police at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in both Bauchi and Lagos States, and DCP Admin at Zone 2, Lagos.

She was Commissioner of Police at Railway Command Headquarters, Ebute Metta, Lagos
and at the Port Authority Police, Eastern Command, Port Harcourt. She got promoted to the post of Assistant Inspector- General of Police in the Department of Training and Development, Force Headquarters, Abuja.


She is married to a former Commissioner of Police in Osun State, Kehinde Longe and their union is blessed with children.

On Wednesday, June 5, 2024, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun appointed her as the first Nigeria Police Force female Secretary.
