Gunmen suspected to be Fulani bandits have abducted a 30-year-old Mohammed Jubril, a resident of Ago Igbira, a settlement under Ila, Osun State.
Speaking on the incident, a resident who pleaded anonymity said, 30-year-old Jubril was abducted and whisked away to an unknown location by 8 fully armed men in the early hours of Wednesday.
He added that before Jubril was abducted, some villagers had engaged the attackers in exchange of gunfire, during which a resident, Hassan Jubril was injured.
“The gunshots woke many villagers as some villagers engaged the gunmen, who were Fulanis. A villager, Hassan Jubril was injured. The perpetrators later abducted Mohammed Jubril and took him towards forest along Osun/Kwara boundary.
“Police, Men of Nigeria Hunters and Forest Security Services, Amotekun Corps, and some other volunteers are already combing the forest”, the resident said.
Confirming the incident, Osun Police Command spokesperson, SP Yemisi Opalola said, “On Wednesday at about 7am one Seriki Fulani, Mohammed Kajibo ‘m’ reported that unknown gunmen numbering 08 suspected to be Fulanis attacked Ago Igbira, a Fulani settlement between 11pm 11/4/2023 and 12am of 12/4/2023 and kidnapped one Mohammed Jubril ‘m’ aged 30years.
“One Hassan Jubril ‘m’ was injured during shoot out.
“Immediately the incident was reported, police in collaboration with Civilian Joint Faskforce (CJF) swung into action, combed the whole area, where Three (03) expended shells of AK47 rifle and cartridges were recovered from the scene.
“Meanwhile the combined teams of Police and CJF are combing the bush to rescue the victim and arrest the perpetrators.”
