Today, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, led a high-powered delegation from the Federal Government to Jigawa State to express sympathies over the tragic fuel tanker explosion in Majiya town, Taura Local Government Area.
The tragic incident, which claimed over 100 lives, has left the entire state in mourning.
The Federal Government delegation included the Honourable Ministers of Defense and Interior, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar (former Governor of Jigawa State) and Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, respectively; the Governor of Kwara State and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Abdulrazaq Abdurrahman; the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed; the Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Zubaida Umar; and other high-ranking officials.
The delegation, accompanied by Governor Mallam Umar Namadi and other Jigawa State Government dignitaries, visited the victims receiving treatment at the Rasheed Shekoni Federal Teaching Hospital in Dutse and later proceeded to Majia, where they inspected the site of the tragic explosion and offered condolences to their families. They also paid a courtesy visit to the Emir of Ringim, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Sayyadi Mahmud Ringim, to offer condolences on behalf of the Federal Government.
Speaking on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, SGF Senator George Akume expressed the Federal Government’s deep sorrow and assured that assistance would be provided through NEMA and other relevant agencies to support the victims and their families.
Senator Akume pledged the government’s commitment to easing the suffering of those affected by the tragedy.
Also, Governor Abdulrazaq Abdurrahman, representing the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, expressed sympathy to the government and people of Jigawa state, assuring them that the Forum stands ready to provide support during these trying times. He highlighted the unity and solidarity of all Nigerian states in confronting challenges and extending help to those in need, reaffirming their commitment to national cooperation and mutual aid.
Also, Governor Abdulrazaq Abdurrahman, representing the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, expressed sympathy to the government and people of Jigawa state, assuring them that the Forum stands ready to provide support during these trying times. He highlighted the unity and solidarity of all Nigerian states in confronting challenges and extending help to those in need, reaffirming their commitment to national cooperation and mutual aid.
In a further show of solidarity, the Governor of Kano State, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, also visited the state to commiserate with the people and government. Governor Yusuf expressed his condolences and announced a generous donation of 100 million naira to assist the victims and their families, reiterating Kano State’s commitment to standing with Jigawa during this challenging time.
Governor Namadi expressed profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for their compassion and support. He also acknowledged the numerous condolences and support from governors across the country, expressing deep appreciation for their solidarity.
The governor reassured the people of Jigawa that his administration would continue to offer the necessary support to the victims and their families as the state mourns this enormous loss. He further emphasized the importance of safety precautions and the need to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
