The Osun State Commissioner for Youth Affairs, Hon. Olagunju Moshood Olalekan, has participated in a three-day gathering of esteemed officials from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and state governments.
This event, held from September 19th to September 21st, 2023, took place at the Exclusive Serene Hotel in Abuja.
The meeting was convened by the Director-General of the NYSC, Brigadier General YD Ahmed, with the primary goal of bolstering collaboration and dedication to the NYSC’s mission during the 2023 Meeting of NYSC Top Management with state government representatives.
The theme of the meeting, “Five Decades of National Service: Mobilizing Stakeholders for Enhanced Service Delivery,” underscored the pivotal role played by state governments and other stakeholders in sustaining the NYSC’s enduring success and influence.
In his keynote address, Brigadier General YD Ahmed expressed his heartfelt appreciation to all attendees, acknowledging their unwavering commitment to the NYSC’s mission.
He specifically praised those state governments that consistently provided ample state allowances to corps members and urged all commissioners to guide these young individuals towards the right path.
The Director-General emphasized the crucial role of state governments, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Administration, and local government councils in bolstering the NYSC’s operations.
He reminded the participants that while the federal government plays a substantial role in managing the scheme, additional responsibilities rest upon other tiers of government, including the provision of essential facilities for corps members.
Reflecting on the recent celebration of the NYSC’s 50th anniversary, Brigadier General Ahmed underscored the necessity for continued dedication to the scheme’s objectives, making it more pertinent and impactful.
He also unveiled ambitious plans for the NYSC Trust Fund, a noteworthy initiative originating from these meetings, to facilitate, enhance development, and support entrepreneurial ventures by Corps members, and enhance the overall operations of the scheme.
Throughout the meeting, significant topics were deliberated, encompassing the establishment of state governing boards, the formation of local government committees, the condition of orientation camps, housing for corps members, the disbursement of state allowances, the security of corps members, and other welfare-related concerns.
The Director-General called upon all stakeholders to lend their support to the legislative process of the NYSC Trust Fund, expressing optimism that its realization would be achieved.
He fervently urged active participation from all attendees in addressing these pivotal issues and contributing to the realization of the NYSC’s mandate.
In conclusion, the 2023 Meeting of NYSC Top Management with state representatives served as an invaluable platform for constructive dialogue and collaboration, aimed at enhancing the service delivery and impact of the National Youth Service Corps.
