Residents of Osun state have taken over the streets of Osogbo, the Osun state capital to protest judgement of the election petition tribunal declaring candidate of the APC, Gboyega Oyetola as the winner of the July 16 governorship election.
Our correspondent observed that business centres and shops were under lock and key and major road were blocked with several residents burning tyres in Ede, Ilesha, Iwo, Ile-Ife, Ila-Orangun, Ileogbo and in Ogo-Oluwa, Aregbe, Okefia, Old Garage and other areas in Osogbo, the state capital
One of the protesters, Semiu Abiodun, explained to Sahel correspondent that the reason people came out is in solidarity with Governor Adeleke stating that it was obvious the tribunal judgment was manipulated.
He added that the judgement is dangerous to democracy and an indication that the votes will not count, neither can true justice be served.
He called on President Muhammadu Buhari and the international community to step in and ensure that such the judgment does not stand.
“We are out today because we are not happy with the tribunal judgement, it is obvious that APC manipulated it.
“This type of judgment is dangerous to our democracy. It means that our votes will not count and justice can not be served.
“I called on President Muhammadu Buhari, United Nations and other international community to step in, such judgment must not stand”, he said.
One resident of Ila who spoke to our correspondent in a telephone conversation under the condition of anonymity noted that the protest is so that the whole world will know that the people of Osun are with Governor Ademola Adeleke and the PDP.
“We are outside and we will not leave the streets until our voices are heard. We are in support of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
“The whole world should know today that the judgement of yesterday was manipulated and can not stand. We will not accept it”, she said.
