Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state has directed the State’s Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to assess the extent of damages to the Nguru market fire disasters.
He lamented that the Saturday incident was ‘sad and unfortunate’ that occur every year and continue rob traders of their means of livelihoods.
According to a statement, yesterday (Sunday), in Damaturu by the Governor’s Spokesman, Mamman Mohammed, the state government will continue to explore means of making life more meaningful to the people.
“The agency is to furnish me with all details of assessments, before supporting the Nguru fire victims,” he said.
“I received with regret the sad news of the fire that destroyed the Nguru Central Market in the early hours of Saturday,” he lamented.
The Governor further disclosed that his administration is to complete the modern markets this year in Nguru, Gashua, Potiskum and Damaturu, the state capital.
According to him, the modern markets are being built with fireproof materials to protect traders and their means of livelihoods.
“We will ensure timely completion of the markets and allocate them to our traders to improve their livelihoods,” he assured.
