The Osun Amotekun Corps has mourned the death of one of its operatives, Officer Odebunmi Samuel, who died after sustaining serious injuries in an attack by suspected motorcycle robbers in Osogbo.
Samuel reportedly passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, where he had been receiving treatment following the attack.
According to the Corps, the officer was attacked in the early hours of Sunday, July 12, while returning home. The assailants allegedly dispossessed him of his motorcycle and struck him on the head with a heavy object before fleeing the scene.
Reacting to the incident, the Corps Commander of the Osun Amotekun Corps, High Chief Dr. Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, described the officer’s death as a painful and devastating loss to the Corps and Osun State.
“The untimely death of Officer Odebunmi Samuel is a heartbreaking tragedy. At a time when his service, experience and commitment were still greatly needed in our collective efforts to ensure peace and security across Osun State, we have lost one of our finest officers,” Omoyele said.
He added, “His unwavering dedication, professionalism and readiness to serve with courage will remain a lasting legacy within the Osun Amotekun Corps.”
The Corps Commander said the late officer distinguished himself through discipline, bravery and commitment to duty, noting that his death had left the management, officers and men of the Corps in mourning.
He described Samuel as an exemplary officer who remained steadfast in the protection of lives and property and served the people of Osun with dedication until his last breath.
Omoyele extended his condolences to the deceased’s mother, wife, children, relatives, friends and colleagues, praying that God would grant them the strength to bear the irreparable loss.
“It is painful that a man who devoted his life to protecting society from criminal elements had his own life cut short by the same forces of lawlessness,” he said.
The Corps Commander assured residents that the Amotekun Corps would work closely with other security agencies to ensure that those behind the attack are identified, arrested and prosecuted.
“We will not relent until those responsible for this heinous act are brought to justice. The death of Officer Samuel will not deter us from our constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property across Osun State. Rather, it will strengthen our resolve to rid the state of criminal elements,” he stated.
The Osun Amotekun Corps also prayed for the repose of the late officer’s soul and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents across the state.
